What we will cover

This workshop will provide victim services providers with an overview of the barriers and challenges that Deaf and hard of hearing victims often face, information on providing access to your services and programs, and key ideas for being an advocate for a victims who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Valuable just-in-time resources will also be provided to all who attend.

About Julie

Julie Rems-SmarioJulie Rems-Smario is an Education Consultant at California School for the Deaf in Fremont where she works to further her goal to preserve, protect and promote ASL for all Deaf children.  As the founding executive director of DeafHope, Julie was nationally recognized with several awards such as CNN Heroes, DeafLife Person of the Year, Pearls Award,  and E-Women Network International Humanitarian Award. She still works for DeafHope on contractual basis creating public service announcements (PSA) to educate the community about domestic and sexual violence in the Deaf community.
